FBI asked by Republican House Members to Investigate Sestak Scandal

Ranking member of Judiciary considering options to probe Sestak offer details

The ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee said Monday that he's studying options for investigating the Sestak affair if the administration does not respond to calls for an inquiry.

Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) said on Fox News that he and 13 other Republican members sent the letter to FBI Director Robert Mueller on Friday requesting an investigation because "it's not really up to the White House to decide whether they did anything wrong or not."

Smith also doubted the ability of the Department of Justice to conduct an "objective investigation," saying the department was "too politicized."
