Dr. David Ramsay Defined Natural Born Citizens In 1789

First and foremost, a hat tip goes to UndeadRevolution for being the first university historians to locate David Ramsay's 1789 Dissertation on the nature of citizenship, which you will be able to read in its entirety below. The title links to the original document, which UR published on Scribd.

Below the link is an embedded copy of my "translation" of the original. In the original document, the letter "s" resembles today's letter "f", so I have removed that visual stumbling block by retyping the entire document. In addition, I have colored key sentences within the document, such as the one below. Note the use of plural parentage.  Both parents must be citizens for the child to be defined as "natural born".  Interestingly, in the dissertation Ramsay also discusses the "precision" of language used in the Constitution.
The citizenship of no man could be previous to the declaration of independence, and, as a natural right, belongs to none but those who have been born of citizens since the 4th of July, 1776.
Few people know who David Ramsay was, and the role he played during the formative years of the United States. Ramsay figured very prominently. Among other skills, he was a prolific historical author of the American Revolution. A few years after the Constitution was ratified, Ramsay wrote a dissertation explaining the means for acquiring citizenship in the U.S. during and after the revolution.

Although Ramsay's words have virtually been forgotten over the past two-hundred years, his dissertation should be more widely read since his comments shed light on Barack Obama's citizenship status. Although Obama was born in Hawaii, his father was not a U.S. citizen. Thus Ramsay's statements give credence to those who question Obama's eligibility because he holds dual citizenship with the U.K.  Even Obama's website admits:  "Barack Obama Jr. was both a U.S. citizen (by virtue of being born in Hawaii) and a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies (or the UKC) by virtue of being born to a father who was a citizen of the UKC."  In a nutshell:  Barack Obama is a Citizen, but he is not a natural born Citizen.

Final note:  For those who tout the 14th Amendment as "solving" the question of Obama's citizenship status, read the amendment again, and notice that it does not mention the precise term "natural born"; it only mentions "citizen".  Next, acquaint yourself with the history behind the 14th Amendment.
