Congratulations on your excellent - and now updated - graphic that perfectly expresses the "natural born citizen" term of art put into the Constitution by the founders. This was certainly not a casual insertion of meaningless words as Ryan and some others seem to think.
And yes, as you note even your children along with the hypothetical case cited by Ryan and, quite possibly, the situation of the man who has never shown himself to be eligible to hold the office he now occupies - all are not eligible to be President of Vice President. Nut ALL of the other many benefits of US citizenship ARE available to them.
Most Americans in fact ARE eligible as natural born citizens under the black-letter-law of the US Constitution and I think most realize (if they'd but stop to think) that the founders had good reason for using that term. Ryan seems to have not done so - but he also does not tell us if HE is a natural born citizen or even a citizen for that matter.
You are correct jayjay. I left that out to keep the message as simple as possible, assuming that people would work that out for themselves. If the conversation ever gets going the way it should, this will be discussed.
It(Our Revolution)….presented us an album on which we were free to write what we pleased. We had no occasion to search into musty records, to hunt up royal parchments, or to investigate the laws and institutions of a semi-barbarous ancestry. We appealed to those(laws) of nature…
There is no definition of "natural-born citizen" in the US Constitution. The ordinary meaning of the words would imply that it is in contrast to naturalized ciizens. President George Washington was born in Virginia in 1732 and therefore born a British subject.
With respect to George Washington, read the full eligibility clause again. It says, "No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."
The parenthetical phrase "or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible" was inserted as a temporary clause so that someone like Washington could fill the post since the Constitution was brand new. Thereafter, they intended that only "natural born Citizens" be eligible.
You previously commented with the same arguments on another graphic at this blog. At that time you were referred to http://puzo1.blogspot.com where there are legal arguments that dispute your reasoning. Either you didn't read the legal briefs, you don't understand them, or you simply don't want to hear the truth.
Let me now suggest that you also read these legal arguments by attorney Donofrio:

ReplyDeleteOne slight possible change on your new graphic - the NBC requirement applies to the President AND Vice President in case you want to be precise.

ReplyDeleteP.S. I've just added a new blog article titled DECLARATION OF WAR On The Biased Mainstream Media. The direct link is:

Within the declaration are comments about the media's failure to analyze the issue of NBC status.
