Lessons of History Ignored

History, to some, is considered boring and irrelevant; not realizing that the present becomes history in just a short time. The past can be an instruction for the path to be taken presently and in the future. There are those today who view the US Constitution as out dated, while they enjoy the freedom and liberty it created and maintained during the history of the United States.
Once upon a time in the history of the world, the Celtic culture existed in a place the Romans called Britannia. They were a people who were close to nature and to the 'civilized' Roman appeared to be barbarians, that name also provided by the Romans describing the Celtic people of both Britannia and regions in Europe and Scandinavia.

Media, Not Boehner, are "Tongue-tied" on Obama's Personal History

By Cliff Kincaid
Accuracy in Media
February 16, 2011

Following the lead of David Gregory of NBC News, who wants Republican House Speaker John Boehner to publicly defend the legitimacy of the Obama presidency, the Los Angeles Times has now editorialized that Boehner ought to make it his business to rebut charges that Obama is a foreign-born Muslim.

With the Los Angeles Times joining the chorus, it appears that the left-wing media are trying to get the House Republican leadership to pull Obama out of the quicksand he finds himself in, as doubts and questions keep mounting about his personal history. The media strategy seems to be to paint GOP House leaders as crazies if they don’t condemn the “birthers” questioning Obama’s legitimacy as President.

It is almost as if the media are trying to prevent the House Republican majority from conducting a serious investigation into the circumstances of Obama’s birth.

Islam: Have You Evaluated Your Kids' Social Studies & History Textbooks Lately?

Texas education board to consider rule on Islam's portrayal in textbooks
By Terrence Stutz
The Dallas Morning News

AUSTIN – Just when it appeared the State Board of Education was done with the culture wars, the panel is about to wade into the issue of what students should learn about Islam.

The board will consider a resolution next week that would warn publishers not to push a pro-Islamic, anti-Christian viewpoint in world history textbooks.

Members of the board's social conservative bloc asked for the resolution after an unsuccessful candidate for a board seat called on the panel to head off any bias against Christians in new social studies books. Some contend that "Middle Easterners" are increasingly buying into companies that publish textbooks.

The resolution cites examples in past world history books – no longer used in Texas schools – that devoted far more lines of text to Islamic beliefs and practices than to Christian beliefs and practices.
In addition, the measure cites some books that dwelled on the Christian Crusaders massacre of Muslims in Jerusalem in 1099, while censoring Muslim massacres of Christians there in 1244 and at Antioch in 1268 – "implying that Christian brutality and Muslim loss of life are significant, but Islamic cruelty and Christian deaths are not."

God Bless The Texas State Board of Education! | by EricaThunderpaws

“The benefits of education and of useful knowledge, generally diffused through a community, are essential to the preservation of a free government” - Sam Houston, First President of the Republic of Texas

The great State of Texas has just declared it will no longer allow revisionist history to corrupt its social studies textbooks.

This decision by the Texas State Board of Education will have an impact across the country because Texas buys more textbooks than any other state in the nation.  Pragmatically speaking, publishers can't afford to print different versions for other states, so what happens in Texas textbooks, spills over into other states.  In the long run this means that America's children will once again learn that capitalism is good.  They'll discover that our country was founded on a value system based on religious principles.  And they'll be told again about the people who made America into an exceptional country; people like Thomas Edison, Daniel Boone, Neil Armstrong, Ronald Reagan, and others who were given short shrift by textbook authors.

In addition, the SBOE requires that teachings about the Bill of Rights must include a reference to the right to keep and bear arms.  And there's more!  Our government must be accurately described as a constitutional republic, not a democracy.  As for economics, Karl Marx and Kenyesian theories will finally be sent to the back seat, because Milton Friedman's and Friedrich von Hayek's free-market theories must be taught, not ignored.

Thank you Texas!

George Washington - First President of the United States

Today is the anniversary of George Washington’s nationally celebrated day. At 10 a.m. a wreath-laying ceremony occurred at George Washington’s tomb celebrating his service as the first commanding general and first President of the United States.
Now it is called President’s Day because some politically correct moron and group of morons decided that all presidents should be honored on the same day as our First President. While the official day of George Washington’s birthday is February 22nd, it no longer is a nationally declared holiday – replaced by President’s Day celebrated on the third Monday of the month of February. President’s today couldn’t hold a match to George Washington’s reputation and character, a great man but nonetheless, a human being who stood tall above most of his peers – in height as well as stature. Loved so much by the American citizens in a new nation of unified states, he could have easily been President of the United States for life. But he didn't.

"It's a Republic, If You Can Keep It"

Mentioned frequently at Lighthouse Patriot Journal, ARM, here and other places is the descriptive two words of the government created in early American history – the Jeffersonian Republic. It was created by learned men, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, John Jay and other colonial-early Americans who had the advantage of being educated in classic education where the wisdom of the ancient civilizations, particularly the Greek and Roman, were taught along with contemporary wisdom of philosophers and political scientists and other studies. While the Greeks had invented democracy, it was the Romans who invented the republican form of government. Indeed, the Roman Empire had often been referred to as the Roman Republic.
As Thomas Wolke wrote at Jeffersonian Republic Now, January 10th 2010 …
Some people have tried to draw a parallel between the decline and fall of the Roman Empire and the current condition of the United States. To me, however, the period of Rome’s late Republic, seems eerily similar to what is happening to America. How? As the Roman Republic grew (conquering Italy just as we conquered much of North America), the prosperity of the country grew apace. … The patricians found it financially beneficial to obtain slaves from the conquered peoples to run their estates and man their factories. The result was to throw millions of free Romans out of work or into poverty either because they were replaced by slaves or because wages dropped so much due to competition for remaining jobs that families could not subsist on them. … This is an overly simplified version of what happened to Rome’s republic. But if any of this resembles the current model of how the United States is operating or where we’re heading, then there’s cause for alarm. The question is, will we Americans maintain our Constitutional Republic (which was modeled in large part on the Roman Republic’s constitution of checks and balances and a bicameral legislature), or will we disintegrate economically and constitutionally until we, too, are swept into the dust bins of history?
