If any of you are worried about the
Mayan Calendar and the impending doom that has been prolifically
published on the Internet
and in books, dated
as December 21st, 2012 – let me allay your fears. But
first, allow me to explain just what this is about ...
Archaeological
evidence has revealed that the Maya had several accurate
calendars, which included one known as the Long
Count Calendar that uses a series of periods called cycles to
count days, months, and years. According to the Long Count Calendar,
a major cycle that lasted 394.3 years ends on December
21st,
2012; which doomsayers,
probably the same people who predicted an Ice Age ten years ago and
now advocates doom in the form of Global Warming, state there will be
a major global catastrophe when the calendar ends.
What they either don't know or forgot to mention is that another cycle begins on December 22nd, 2012 and ends in 2406. No archaeological evidence has shown that the Mayans who made these calendars ever predicted a doomsday scenario in tune with their calendars. The Aztec were in to making calendars as well, their calendar resets in 2027.

I liked the entertaining film 2012 -- but that is just what it was -- Hollywood entertainment. Special effects is awesome.

Now for your trivia entertainment, I
present the following factoids from the NASA concerning
the year 2012:
- 2012 is a leap year.
- It is the year of the US Presidential primary elections.
- In April of 2012, the Combined Forces Command in South Korea will dissolve.
- From July to August the 30th Summer Olympic Games will occur.
- On December 21st, 2012, when the Mayan Calendar cycle ends and is resumed in another cycle, the winter solstice will occur at 23”11 GMT. The sun will align with the center of the Milky Way galaxy, seen from Earth, for the first time in 26,000 years.
The only doom I can see in 2012 is if
the American voters are naïve enough to allow Barack Hussein Obama a
second term as President of the United States.
